Heading South

Today we headed south to wineries in Halifax and Campbell Counties.

First stop Hunting Creek Vineyards in Clover, Virginia.  When walked in there was a group of women drinking wine and they appeared to be having a good time.  My thought was we walked into a private party.  Well it kind of was, but that was okay.  It was friends of the owners who can come in to help with harvesting and were taking a lunch break.  The men soon came out of the field and joined them and it really was just a good time.  The owner, Sandy, provided us with a great tasting and the entire group made us feel right at home.  The tasting room was in a cozy log cabin that I bet would be really nice on a cold day seated near the fire place.

After lunch at the Drug Store Cafe in downtown Brookneal, it was off to Sans Soucy in Brookneal, VA.  This was the perfect bucolic setting.  Horses gazing at us from the barn, and people coming out of the field from harvesting.  Sans Soucy offers 2 options for tastings – sweet or dry or all.  We chose all.  The owner, Jackie, was fresh in from harvesting all morning and did our tasting.   She was wonderful taking us not just through the wines, but through their history of owing the winery.  It was a lovely afternoon.
